THINKING BIG in Tough Times!!!
Talk of recession is everywhere and with it comes the gloom and doom of a shrinking job market and lay offs. It is up to us to help our clients think creatively about what they can offer especially now.
Kenny Raskin, an internationally known performer and facilitator with The Ariel Group will demonstrate techniques developed in the performing arts to help us unleash BIG THINKING in our clients and ourselves.
In his unique spirit of play, Kenny will enliven us with:
- Exercises that encourage risk-taking & nontraditional ideas
- Unique methods for brainstorming that produce new results
- Tools for working quickly and creatively within limitations
- Practice at framing the possibilities on a much larger context
Come renew yourself and your career consulting work by pre-registering today to attend our Spring dinner meeting!

Learning the Best from the Best! What if – for one evening—we are “the experts”?
Shared learning with skilled colleagues is one of the most interesting ways to gain first hand, valuable information to build your own competence in your field. Here is your opportunity to benefit from the wealth of knowledge in our local chapter!
How it will work: There will be four interesting and diverse topics; one topic at each of four tables. You will get to choose and visit two tables during the evening.
NOTE: While we encourage you to bring and share a best practice, it is OPTIONAL; feel free to participate as either a teacher or a learner, or both!
The table topics are the following:
- Technology Update – The latest in career sites, blogs, & networking tools
- Independent Practice Discussion – Inside tips with independent practitioners (e.g., contracting with a new client, fees/sliding scales, etc.)
- Occupational Research Discussion – Expansion of the wealth of information prepared by Dave Buck at last month’s meeting
- Creating and Finding Work Opportunities in Tough Economic Times – Discussion of alternative work options amidst a shrinking job market
If you plan to share a tool or process and wish to share it in writing, please bring 10 copies of a handout for your table participants, and sign up for the appropriate table when you come in.
DUE TO THIS MEETING’S SPECIAL FORMAT, PLEASE PRE-REGISTER!

Third Agers or What I Want To Be When I Grow Up Past 50
Dave Corbett, Founder of New Directions, Inc.
Kit Harrington Hayes, LifeWork Transformation Consultant
Thursday, November 15, 2007 5:45 - 8:00 PM
The size of the over-50 population will double in the next 35 years, as 77 million Baby Boomers enter the “Third Age.” Career counselors and coaches will be called upon to assist these clients in making this a deeply fulfilling life stage.
To explore two possible approaches to the Third Age, we are fortunate to have Dave Corbett, co-author of Portfolio Life: The New Path To Work, Purpose and Passion After 50 and Kit Harrington Hayes, Boston Chapter member and author of Managing Career Transitions: Your Career as a Work in Progress.
Dave Corbett will speak about assisting clients to find meaning, purpose, and engagement in their post career through activities such as volunteering, consulting, board memberships, etc. He will explain how developing a portfolio of skills can help clients in their later years to achieve balance and fulfillment.
Our other speaker will be Kit Harrington Hayes. She will address the special issues of older clients as they embark on a job search when retiring is not an option. Not only do Third Agers face different challenges than their younger counterparts, but they require a life planning process that identifies the resources necessary for them to fully live and enjoy life.
Plan on joining us in November for this informative meeting that focuses on critical issues facing our clients and our profession!
